Food Safety is an issue of great importance to industry and consumers worldwide. The annual Global food Safety Conference travels the world, catering for industry and other stakeholders. Last week the 2017 edition took place in Houston, with 1200 delegates attending.
Gert Jan held an invited keynote on Food Safety Culture. He argued that the same technical safety system may lead to different results in different parts of the world. Food safety procedures are a socio-technical system, not only a matter of cleaning machines at critical control points. When leadership, empowerment, and motivation work differently, the social side of the food safety system has to adapt.
His message must have come across, since his talk was granted the 'Best Presentation Award' by the listeners.
